Africa’s first Human-Centered Design Toolkit
We have designed this toolkit to help generate solutions in many different fields of interest, from agriculture to manufacturing, to banking and new technology. Throughout we use examples from some industries, but the process is equally applicable across the board. No matter which industry sector you are designing for, the human-centred design (HCD) process is essential in encouraging behavioural change that will lead to the uptake of new products or services.
Drawing on local narrative, symbolism, social norms and visual cues, they have packaged the process in an easy-to-use format that they hope will encourage more businesses and designers to get to know their market and unique context.
This HCD method incorporates the user or customer as an active participant in every step of the design process. Our approach is adept in designing products and services for first-world applications, yet our Afro-centric approach is equally relevant in designing solutions for the bottom of the pyramid in some hard-to-reach places.
